You know it's coming eventually. We already have internet phones, camera phones, mp3 phones, tv phones... oooh, it's coming. And I am so getting one.

Plants that grow steaks.

As someone who admires vegetarians but can't quite bring herself to give up delicious, delicious steak, I would like to encourage bioengineers to look into a plant that grows meat.
We can make meat in the lab. We've already put fish genes in tomatoes. Why not have a beefsteak tomato bush that grows actual beefsteak?
Then, no cute cows die.

And yes, sometimes my own ideas disturb me... but I'm willing to try plant meat. It would be eco-friendly.

Cure Cancer with AIDS

Re-bioengineer the AIDS virus to target cancer cells instead of T-cells. Can't be that hard, can it?

Vitamin Booze

It's booze enhanced with vitamins, encouraging alcoholics to get proper nutrition. Also eases hangovers.
Just like Vitamin Water... only booze.

Genetically engineered bioluminescent house plants.

You get home late, it's dark, you fumble with the key opening the front door, and when you finally get it open, you stumble across the room to the lamp, tripping over your pet rabbit, knocking stuff over, adding another thigh bruise to your thigh bruise collection from that stupid side table, all the while tracking mud and leaves across your carpet because you couldn't see a damn thing to set down your purse and take off your shoes when you came in.

"Why not get a nightlight?" you ask. Or "Why not have the lamp by the door?"

But I ask you, how awesome would it be if the houseplant next to the door glowed? It never has to be turned on or off. It doesn't add to your electricity bill. It doesn't contribute to global warming. There's no power cord to plug in and tempt little bunny teeth with. It survives on just sunlight and water, and you know what else - it's pretty. And modern science is totally, 100% capable of producing it.
